@beedles, much like the letter D of GOD has taken a hit, I suspect that the C of AMERICA has suffered a similar indignity.

This looks more like a broken hub issue. What? When a hub is broken part of the devices can be missing. Note the shape of the 'C' is distorted a bit, but doesn't show coin contact. Neither on the device or on the fields under that area. Here are a few others I've spotted through the years:
