I know chips are common on these dimes but on the reverse of this one the chips extend along the high areas of the branches and the leaves. Or maybe those long ones would just be referred to as die wear?

Thanks.

This looks like the die had an issue with Feeder Finger Damage (FFD), but the die was polished to remove the FFD. Why do I think that? Note the reverse. The FFD would be horizontal across the center of the reverse design. Note how the fields are real flat on the reverse? All the devices on both sides of the coin are thinner. (because the fields were reduced, removing the wider bases of the devices, leaving the devices looking small in size) Thus the die chips on the reverse and MD on the reverse chip.

Thanks Coop.

I never would have figured that out.

Would it be considered an error or variety or just damaged coin?

It is more of a normal coin now. A little more interest when you see the Feeder Finger Damage:

But more of an educational piece on the ones with the FFD. (Feeder-Finger-Damage) But the coins chips may have been caused by the feeder fingers?

Here is another example of one with the polishing:

Note how smooth/dull the polished area looks? But not seeing die chips like your example. You might save it as an educational piece and look for another example of Feeder Finger Damage on another dime. That way you can share the information with another new/anther collector?
