One term I recall is when a member typed "just PM me."
There are other meanings, I believe, but in this context, "PM" stands for "Personal Message" - or, rather, since it's a verb, "send a personal message [to me]".

It's a common generic term (not related to coin collecting), which is probably why it's not in the glossary.

As it happens, on CCF, this feature is accessed through the "Email Poster" and "Send an Email" links, which might have confused you further.

Pm took me a while to figure out because I always say I'll email you. I can remember when it was I'll fax it over.
RPM took forever too. Repunched mint mark.
NIFC not issued for circulation had me bewildered.

@fp, perhaps this prior thread will be of some interest:

Typical reply that irritates new members and some older ones as well. Why make people bounce around to find out what your trying to say. Yes it saves YOU time but for many others it is irritating and could make new members move away. I've been here for a long time and still do not know what most of those just letters mean. And as many have said, when asking, they are told to go somewhere else to find out the reasons. So how difficult would it be to simply answer new members when asking for information.

Ok that is good to know @just carl. Usually when I point someone to another thread, I am trying to help them save time from having to do a search of the CCF website themselves. In this case, the link is for a humorous thread about numismatic acronyms. Assuming that this could be of some value to the OP, how would you suggest that I draw their attention to things like this in the future?

Good one, Spence! By the way, I am not into texting abbreviations either. I guess I have OFS (old fogies' syndrome.) Always better, and less rude, to speak rather than text.

While normally I would agree with carl on this one, I must defer to Spence, as it would be difficult to type out his link information.

january1may: Thank you for the information on "PM". The information about "email poster" was welcome also. I guess this old dog can learn some new tricks after all.

I don't have much to add except that I, too, tend to be an AAAA* type, but have found one or two of them useful (like OFEY for One From Every Year collecting, since that is what I now engage in).

Actually using one, two or more letters for something is very contagious. On TV or on the radio and newspapers it is done all the time. Notice on TV how a car add says MSLP? Or Restaurant menues stating BLT sandwich. Our space agency is NASA. Our Nuclear industry used to be AEC but now is NRC. On the left of this screen it states US Mint Sets. MA-Shops, past Mint NCLT mintages. It is everywhere sort of like a spreading virus.
