I found this searching through some cents my grandpa gave me. I know it's a greased die and also double, maybe triple struck. It's a Close AM but can't really tell what the last number is. It sort of looks like a 2 but also maybe an 8. You can barely make out the 199. I've tried every different type of light angle. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's not double or triple struck for sure. But it is a strike through grease, but it also has heavy corrosion.

There seem to be multiple areas that have been very lightly struck up, as you note most likely due to grease in the die. However, with several regions starting to corrode from the inner zinc core, I'm concerned about the condition of this coin moving forward. You can slow the degradation process, but I don't think stop it.

to the CCF!

It was a nice struck through coin, but the corrosion, as noted above has ruined the value. It could have been a cup holder coin. Soft-Drinks with phosphoric and citric acid are really hard on almost all types of metal.

Most of what looks like corrosion on the reverse is some type of grease. It could be easily removed by cleaning but didn't want to go that route. It's still in great shape underneath. Thanks for the replies.

You can safely clean it with 100% pure acetone.
