I have 2 pennies from same year with different colors and I heard that one could be what they call rainbow penny. Can anyone give me information about this, thanks to all

The color differentiation is from environmental exposure causing that toning.

If you look through a few hundred cents you will find a cornucopia of colors.

Any toning is damage as it is causing the surface to corrode the upper layer of the coin.

Some people love "pretty" toning.

Fortunately that interest continues to wane as the pretty toning continues to darken in many cases.

Even saliva can tone a coin a bit darker red.

I performed a test on a new coin. Then I realized that all the darker red coins were probably in a child's mouth. Same for little spots on coins. I concluded they are caused by the smallest droplets of sneezing around coins.

Fingerprints can alter surfaces of coins:

Sulfur in the air can turn silver coins a bit yellow. Storing BU coins in PVC soft flips can alter coins natural colors. Some albums that store BU coin can alter coins:

I even took two different sets of images with this example.
Moisture can alter copper colors, turning them green. So keep your BU coin save in hard flip 2X2's or normal 2X2's. They stay more of a natural longer.
