Hello,
What would you recommend to keep track of my coins? Software? What software should I use? I'd like something reasonable yet powerful enough to get the job done.
Thanks, Rich

Excel works well for me. You can readily put values in and multiply them if you have more than one of something.

Hello,
If I use Excel what do I put in there, what fields? I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Thanks, Rich

For the Excel, I would have a sheet for each coin type you collect I would but some information at the top explaining your goal, what are the dates and mints you want. Then I would have fields for Date of coin, Mint of coin, price you paid, grade (even if it is your personal guess), whole sale value (if you have the blue book) or retail value (if you have the Red Book) and date of purchase. Maybe at the bottom have some fields for totals of price paid, etc. Hope this helps some. At least it will get you started. BTW

Is there any excel spreadsheets that have been uploaded onto this site? I saw a 7070 uploaded somewhere here.
I am beginning a JFK set and was wondering if anyone had any blank forms.
thanks.

Hello,
I'm unaware of any blank forms, although I find it much easier now to create my own spreadsheets because I have more control over what I want to do and what content to add. I know it is tedious and a pain but trust me once you get used to it you might find you prefer it too.

I use a software called coinmanage (coinmanage.com). you can create as many folders as you want. you can enter coins as to date, MM, grade, quantity there is also a "coin" value attached. it fairly closely matches values I have seen online. there are annual updates for coin values, but you do NOT need to update, if it is only for the updated values. I suppose there could be some argument as to how accurate the values are in any case. I like it (for ny uses)

Just google "free excel coin template" and you'll get a few hits of blank forms

I have kept my information in a spreadsheet for many years now (I actually started with VisiCalc). To this day I still use a spreadsheet for tracking my budget and account information! Just sit down one afternoon with your Red Book, coin album, or whatever source you want to compile your list. You can start out simple if you like by just listing date and mint. The great thing about spreadsheets is that they can evolve over time. I know mine has!

Ceaton,
I don't have enough posts to email other members.
I wonder if 10 e-mails, this one is number 10, will put me over the top.
