I am trying to figure out what is causing this on my Nickel, it is only inside the rim of the coin, not on the rim or the edges.

to the CCF!

I'm not sure what caused it, but it didn't have that pebbled surface when it left the mint. It could have been exposed to acid or something like that. The rim and edge have been smoothed by circulation wear. The high points on the design, eyebrow, cheek, shoulder, etc. look like they are smooth also.

Just a 20 year old nickel.

Maybe spent some time in a pool pump basket, then circulated to polish high points. I've put all denominations in my pool pumps basket (for up to a week) to see the effect and got that pebbled look
