I found a 1988 LMC with a normal RDV-005 however it looks like it has doubling of some sort. Never seen something like this. Can I get some help? Thanks.

Coinhunter, so happy to see that I am not the only one. I have at least one as well. Mine is a 1988 D LMC. I hadn't had a chance to post this one yet. I think may have also come across a less impressive example last year. Anyone else have one or know any info on these?

Looks like a RDV-005. Also note the die state. I have yet to see a 1988 RDV-006 with a later die state. These were to fill in the end of the run for the year and because of extreme die wear, they started using these RDV-006 dies early. They were supposed to be used the following year with the new reverse design. The RDV-006 dies had different devices on AMERICA: The 005's had rounded AME and the 006's had flat AME. The whole design was stronger on the 006.

That is the RDV-005. Rounded instead of flat like the RDV-006.

IMHO, I see RDV-006 when I look at the AM. Mine is pretty flat rather than rounded. Here's mine:

So, the weird initials are considered late stage die machine damage?

That's what I thought, but what do I know?

But even if that is RDV-005, CinM and I both need help on that weird doubling there on the "G". I'm not trying to say its an RDV-006 I'm just wondering if that is some kinda error or something totally different.

It takes know what to look for, and then see it so you can use that information later. Also copy my images for your educational purposes. That way you don't have to kick yourself later for not doing it now. Every try to find something you later needed? It is not an easy task. Copy them now.

Got it coop. Thanks! So, to be clear, is the doubling on the initials attributed to worn die or something else?

Thanks for the help Coop. So, can I get a final response on why this FG has weird doubling on it?

Note on your coin on AMERICA. Note how there is Machine Doubling on the inside of the devices? That is MD. So it altered the 'FG' also. Count down: 10.
