Does the so called "spitting horse" die crack error on the 1999 Delaware quarter carry any value? Is it still collectible? Should I save all the uncirculated ones that I have? Thanks for any insight on this matter folks.

Hi,

I'm usually reluctant to answer these types of questions. Die cracks with "cutesy" names sell only because of the "cutesy" name.

They seem to have a value directly proportional to the amount of hype they receive.

States quarters ,by the nature of the various designs are loaded with minor, die cracks. They are not scarce. In fact, they are fairly common.

I can't tell you what you should do but to me, they should be worth about 25 cents each.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks, I kinda figured that cause I pulled 27 Del's and 32 Mass out of a mint bag of each when they first came out. I was going thru my collection and saw them in the envelopes where I put them and decided to put a couple of each in 2x2's. As for the rest, I guess I'll put them back in the envelopes for another 8 years and spend them when gas gets back down to $1.50 a gallon...........Yeah right, like that will ever happen.

Gas will be $1.50 some day.

$1.50 a pint.

I agree with Bill. All the cute little die cracks and blobs people name only carry value while the hype is on, then they drop back to being pocket change. This has a history of more than 40 years and every case has burned people who bought into the hype.
