Yes. Papal States.

Hmmm. Gubbio is a quick guess, but now I will hit the books.

tdziemia,
Thanks. I had wondered about Gubbio but the photo is so poor, I couldn't tell, and there's no picture in KM.

In which legend does AP appear and what does it mean ?

AP appears in the legend of other quattrinos, like this one: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces115587.html.

It stands for Apostolicus, a traditional title for the pope, meaning apostolical, which in this specific case refers to the pope as the chief successor of the Apostles and leader of the Catholic Church.

On your coin:
ALEX VII P M = Alexander VII Pontifex Maximus

The AP when it comes after SANCTVS PAVLVS may mean "Saint Paul, Apostle," even though Paul is not normally counted among the apostles (in the sense of the 12 who were with Jesus during his ministry and are variously named in the gospels).

tdziemia, you are of course right, you apparently look at the text more carefully than I! I still think the meaning could be apostolic (rather than apostle) also for St Paul, but in the sense of someone related to the early followers of Christ and the Christian teaching.

Edited: On second thought, it probably does stand for apostolo = apostle. That seems the more straightforward interpretation.
