What I meant to say was that two of the die crack marks are on the obverse side or the back or whatever and one is on the front right behind Kennedy's head. Sorry about that and thank you again.

Toots, When you examine the marks closely, are they made of raised metal only? Or do they look like they were made with a knife gouging the metal (which would have resulted in recessed cuts, with raised metal to the side).
I'm confident that die cracks can be ruled out.

if these were cuts in the die, the X would look like the lettering on the coin, raised. the center wouldn't have any depression in it. Because of the shine on the coin, it is hard to tell. the reverse ones look like gouges, the front, can't quite tell. I lean to PMD. esp. since nothing like this has been listed as an error. This wouldn't have just affected 1 coin, there would be more. Not a half dollar collector though. If it was a legit die gouge, the only way I'd see it happen, is for a Mint employee to put the X's deliberately on the die. (purposely/ accidentally) such as"I need to pitch this die, i'll mark it..." and oops! "who turned the machine one again?" Still lean PMD though...

The first thing I thought when looking at this coin was, wow who would Mark a coin like that. Like they have done it with a knife and these were incisions but upon further inspection with various types of magnifying glasses I realize these are in fact marks that are made of all raised material. No gouges.

So, I will say that I dont necessarily know alot of the terms used can collecting yet however I do know what I'm looking at and this is all raised material making up these x marks on the coin no depressions.

It is a gouge on the coin with raised edges. Think of it like this: go outside where there is a flat surface on the ground or better yet a sandbox, take your finger and make a straight line, there will be a gouge with raised edges. Your coin is PMD. John1

Can you post a clear image of a full obverse (front) and reverse (rear/back) please? Two of them seem to be opposite each other but the close ups make it difficult to tell the relationship on each side. Thanks
