Hey Everybody - In my forever search to find my first DDO, I think I found one. Either it is a dd or double strike. I will let the experts weigh in. I could not find my macro lens so sorry for the bad pictures. I know the coin is bad shape but I just want to have a real example of a DDO. I could not find any examples on the net so I have a bad feeling this is some sort of die deteriation but there are ridges and the end of some form out. What the heck do I know, I am just a rookie

The zinc is rotting under the copper plating. As it disintegrates the copper plating sinks downward giving the effect of doubling. It's all caused from zinc rot.

so when zinc rot starts to occur then even the lettering with start to split in two and widen? for example the the letter "G" in god? I admit the pictures are not clear and the coin is done but when I view it with my phone I see the bumps on some of the letters and the widening of the letters. Do you think I should resubmit with better pictures once I go and buy a new macro lens as lost the one I had.

The areas you are looking at on the left side of the Liberty devices, are showing Die Deterioration Doubling. This is not a doubled. It is from an aging die. Also why the planchet looks so rough is another mystery. (probably the coin was plated over a lot of zinc dust) But it is a spendable coin :

The date shows on the right, Liberty on the left and on the tops of the motto.
