MD...the I in America shows it best,where due to circulation wear the upper metal has "folded/shifted" over covering up the flatter portion

All the 1965-1967 coins did not have mintmarks. Stopped in 1964 when the next year started the clad coins. So they stopped proof coin (made SMS those years) and no mint marks on the coin to prevent so many coin being pulled out for collections. In 1968 the mintmarks returned. The 40% Silver halves ran from 1965-1970-D then they changed over to clads.
