2010 Canadian Penny. No copper. Zinc only.

Does it look to you like it simply did not receive that layer when it was minted? Or has it been through an acid bath or something similar. Thanks!

......and, if it is like this strictly through the minting process, does it add any value, or is it just an low-value error?

Have to agree - just discoloration from some unknown environmental exposure.

Can you post a photo of the rim (edge)? It almost looks like a "Texas penny" to me...

On your coin, traces of the copper remain. One spot is directly above the numeral "1" in the denomination. It was most likely reverse plated to strip the copper. This is a common high school lab experiment, generally combined with a potato battery. Switching the anode and cathode strips the copper from the coin and attaches it to the copper foil.

Coin could have been recovered from a donation pond or fountain.

OK....My instincts were correct then. It was up for auction, and I just wanted confirmation of the environmental damage. Thanks.
