G'day, I suspect that most people have done as I did:
digital; upto 50 grams; in increments of 0.1 gram.
You can go bigger, but that's not really necessary for coins.
And you can have smaller increments - and therefore "more accurate" - but most coins are not specified with any greater accuracy.
Digital are easy to use, and not very expensive.
Great for detecting fakes.

I have a little, cheap US Balance (made in China - go figure). The boss gave it to me but not a bad device at all.
Yes, it's digital. Weighs in grams, ounces (troy), grains and dwt (penny weight).

Up to 400 grams.

Runs on AA batteries and the lid doubles as tray. Easy to tare as well.

Fits in a shirt pocket.

Not legal for business purposes but does a nice job for what I need.

Go to this ebay site (400000705623) There you will find the scale that I bought. They are new and are good quality. The buy it now price is 14.99 Free Shipping . I found it good to place a sticky note on the scale to protect surface and coin. When you turn it on it automatically sets the tare weight. Here is a quick picture of it. Good Luck

ebay is probably your best bet. I bought a Digiweigh model DW-500BX that has a capacity of 500g at 0.1g increments runs on 4 AAA batteries and has done me very well for the past 4-5 years. I do not recall what I paid for it, but knowing me, it was cheap.

Actually my only attempt to ever use ebay was to purchase a digital scale. The one they sent was not the one advertised, didn't work and they wanted a restocking fee and I was supposed to pay return postage. I threadned to contact the better buisness bureau and ebay so they ended up taking it back, returning all my money.
I ended up going to scientific supply house in my area, bought the best one they had for a fraction of the one from ebay. It works fantastically. HOWEVER, I only used it once the day I got it and it now sits in a drawer for over a year.
