Tony, I don't know if the damage was caused by glue or not. It looks like some sort of post mint staining.

Environmental damage/staining It's a spender,Send it back in to the wild and see how many more stains it will get lol..

Sometimes a sticker or tape is on a coin for a long time. That allows the rest of the coin to be altered. So the item was removed from off the coin, then it appears normal, while the rest is altered in color. As mentioned a spender.

Here's how the nickel looks to the naked eye, the microscope camera changes the color somehow?
