1922 Peace Dollar What Type Of Damage Caused The Coloring?

Any clue is this caused by someone coloring the coin or maybe from the environment? Found in coins that were inherited by a grandparent that passed recently. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Perhaps this coin may? have been wrapped in chlorinated white paper.
If that is the case, it will eventually patinate to a much darker than usual gun metal gray.
