I originally sent this coin to Dr. Wiles as it is at least as strong as any number of similar class 5 DDOs (see 1943 DDO-006 as an example).

http://varietyvista.com/01a%20LC%20...3PDDO006.htm

Dr. Wiles stated, "Possible DDO on BER of LIBERTY, but even if it is, the spread is much too close to be listable in the CONECA files."

Okay, so I sent it to Mr. Wexler and just got it back. He says, "Unfortunately, the doubling that you see on your 1935 Lincoln Cent is not the result of a doubled die error. It is a common form of doubling known as ' Die Deterioration Doubling'."

Really? Here are a couple images of the LIBERTY. I took the "liberty" (pun intended) of putting in an arrow or two where the doubling is visible including notches on the lower right of several letters.

Maybe it's not strong enough for CONECA (see that 1943 above), but DDD?

You make the call, as I'm just going to file it as an unlistable DDO and call it a day on this one.

100% a genuine DDO. IMO just too minor for either of them. I think Wexler's wrong on this one.

For what it is worth, I struggle with these, especially when the doubling is relatively minor. For me, the notching/split serif is most visible on the letter E.

If the B and the R don't say it, then I don't know. That is a DDO all day long.

I am astonished at the conclusion of DDD. There is no way this is DDD. If this is the case then they both need to look through their respected files and debunk a lot of them.
