@NJ, can you please post the weight? That should tell us if a wrong alloy was used. If it is within mint specs, then this is just environmental exposure.

Ok hmm normal weight is 3.75 g, but you are getting 5 g. Can you please confirm that any other random nickel weighs the correct amount on your scale?

I put a 1955 nickel on the scale and it read 4.92 grams

Normal weight for a nickel has always been 5 grams.

I am with Coinfrog, we have a water fountain at the place I work and often kids throw coins in and make a wish. For me is interesting to watch how different coins with different alloy interact with moisture and chemicals after sitting in the water for awhile( we have a hard water in our town) the worst reaction I've seen has been on the Zincolns, the Zinc literally starts to explode from inside out .
