Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but also new to coins. I've been reading up on coin errors but this one still puzzles me. I found it a few weeks ago under the carpet under my passenger seat in my car. It's a teddy roosevelt America the Beautiful Quarter but the writing around the halo/ring of the tails side is not there. Nor are any raised features of Washington's face on the other side. Puzzled but curious. What would cause this? Also I should note that some brown coloration is present along the bottom of the tails side. Thanks!

Your coin is damaged. It's called PMD. It's not a mint error. It happened after it left the mint. Sorry.

PMD:

Short for post mint damage. Damage sustained after the coin was struck.
