I went to compare with Wexlers images. Hope I didn't butcher his name! The loop going from the 9 to the D looks like stage 1 to me.

A market means nothing without the variety. The dies go through the same things over and over and can create the same types of events over and over. It is "the variety" that you should be looking for.

Thanks buddy, how often do you get it wrong if ever. I'm sure picture quality has a lot to do with it. On a side note how can you tell if the 71 kennedy was struck on the 40 percent silver planchet?

1970-D was the last year for the 40%. The 1971 is a clad. Sometimes they are plated over. Check the weights, cause the two are different weights.

Yeah I thought so, I have about 15 71s all weighing 11.2-11.3 except for 1 that is 11.4/11.5.

Quote: So there is no planchet error for 71 There's at least one! https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...-silver.htmlAs explained in that article, both weight and specific gravity are important in figuring out what planchet was used. XRF would help, too.
