Hello All! My kids and I just started this fun hobby and we have a question on a 1994 coin. Yes we are new and are trying to get some feedback if this is Machine Doubling or Double Die. I've read a lot of forums and looked at pictures but I'm still stumped. Any help would be awesome! Thank you kindly for your time.

But how can you tell if it is Machine Doubling. Note on your first image on the 'O' on one? Machine Doubling almost always affects the outer edge of the devices. reducing the size of the devices. Note with the one unpside down, the upper left corner of the device is reduced, not enlarged like a doubled die would be. To see the differences between MD-Normal-A doubled die: Note these images.

Note the reduction from the normal side of the first two images. Not only does reduction happen, you see flat areas where a contour used to be. Shelf like looking areas on the devices. So where to look for doubling. look more on the centers of the devices. If that area shows a spread it maybe a doubled die. (somes coin rub will affect the tops of devices and sometimes ejecting of the coin will alter the tops of the devices)

Now look at the doubled die. These are called doubled dies, because the hub doubling is on the die. These will look the same during the dies life. (some dies will will wear and hide hub doubling like the class 2 doubled dies) Sometimes notching is present where the hub process overlap a previous hub event. But that is what to look for.
