I acquired this stunning 2007 dime from SPP years back.

It is black in colour, 1.6g struck on unknown foreign magnetic planchet.

It has the same specifications as the black 2004 5c and 25c struck on ballcone burnishing beads (1.6g magnetic). However, it doesn't have any rust or concentric rings that are seen on the 2004 5c and 25c.

Has anyone seen any other of these black 2007 dimes?

Here is what the 2007 1.6g "black dime" looks like compared to the 2004 1c, 5c, and 25c struck on 1.2g or 1.6g ballcone burnishing beads.

Doesn't look like it was struck on a Ballcone to me...like you say, no rust or ring

That 2007 is not a ballcone. It has a completely different composition, with copper (I had XRF'd it prior to PCGS submission).

1. Any idea on what makes copper go black like this?

2. I seem to remember someone else selling a 2007 "black dime" on ebay, he/she photographed it with a dozen normal 2007 dimes surrounding it.
But right now I can't find any evidence of another 2007 like this, sold at any of the major auctions.

I said "with copper" - it is still mostly iron, and magnetic.

It looks like it's struck on a prepared planchet, so a person would need to find a matching coin issue that they struck for another country?
