Chop marks are indeed counterfeited. Just like artificial wear & patination.

I've seen them - not often, but yes they exist, just like fake wear, color, bagmarks, etc. Pretty much anything these days it can be a tough call on many series.

I agree with Conder .... looks like damage. This coin may have been heavily hammered simply to see if it was plated.

I've seen some counterfeit eight real pieces that were punch-marked with simplistic, tiny characters that somewhat resemble Chinese marks.
