I would put aside a few unopened rolls with heads on one end and tails on the other. Then look for errors,varieties and higher grades.

Position in the stack of boxes at your bank probably is not a guarantee of old or new coins. Ask the teller or branch manager for a box customer rolled cents. Personally I've found banks aren't real thrilled about getting or giving boxes of coins for personal use. They stock boxes of coins for their business account holders, so be extra nice to everyone at your bank, and they'll be more helpful. I always call ahead to see if they have boxes in stock and available. I have gotten to the point of stopping by whatever bank in whatever grocery store I'm in and asking to buy five or six dollars of cents, and they are usually friendly enough to sell them to me. If they offer new coins, just ask if they have customer rolled rolls available. Good luck
