Any one do a mint tour? Anything different one should pick up at the gift shop?
I have a few days off this coming weekend and was planning on going to the Philadelphia mint? Any tips?

@hfj, as it turns out we have an evergreen thread on CCF talking about numismatic displays in museums around the world. In looking at the index that I put together on page 10 of that thread, I don't see the Philly mint listed. Please take some pics (if that is permitted) and then post them over on that thread after you get back. http://goccf.com/t/301900For me, one non-numismatic must-see in Philly was the Mütter Museum of Medical Oddities: https://allthatsinteresting.com/mutter-museum

Sadly pictures are not allowed :(
Have you been to the revolutionary museum? It's very well done. They have Washington's tent.

Hmm, I don't think so. Perhaps just the Mütter, Independence National Park (for the Liberty Bell), Elfreth's Alley, and the Eastern State Penitentiary.

I have been several times, as I lived in the Philly area for 35 years, but not recently (I moved away 8 years ago). As I recall, it's a self-guided your, with a combination of displays, and walking past windows up above the floor with he coining presses. Let us know how it goes! And please be sure to enjoy a Philly soft pretzel for me, from one of the vendors outside (but only if it's early in the day ... they get kinda soggy and slimy by afternoon). Also ... Independence Hall the Liberty Bell (excellent tours given by National Park Service rangers), the Betsy Ross House, and Elfreth's Alley are all within 5 blocks, as are historic houses of worship like Christ Church, and the Arch St (Quaker) Meeting House. It is one of the most historic square miles in all of the U.S. (Edit: @spence beat me to it while I was typing )

I did the Philly mint long, long ago, and it is a historic must see for any numismatist. That city is truly a great center of United States history. An unforgettable experience in downtown Philadelpia is a visit around noon time and if memory serves, also late afternoon inside the enormous old Wanamaker Department store, now a Macy's flagship. I think they call it Center City store. Anyway, when you step into the store you are actually inside the biggest musical instrument on earth-- A hundred year old 28,000 pipe organ which lives inside that 14 story building! To experience the site and sound is a treat you will never forget.

Date, time and company are confirmed. I'll try and get pictures with my phone, I won't take a camera.

Ask them if you can pick up anything that is dropped. Also, ask about free samples. And best not carry a gun with you.
