Hi all,
I apologize for blowing up the forum with my questions tonight, but I just finished doing a bunch of photography for some error hunting I'd been doing.

Does this look like a die chip/break situation, or some type of doubling instead? I included a close-up of a "normal" obverse for the Frank Church quarter.

Thank you!

I haven't seen this one before. It looks like moss hanging off the hat, most likely a die chip, but I need to do some research.

Interesting find at the very least!

Thanks, Yokozuna!

It doesn't appear to map to anything on the original design. I have found one specimen, among a couple of them, that appeared to have some possible doubling or die crack on the tree above (see below).

@GreasyFingers: Just the benefit of living in a city where they release the new quarters. What do you mean by "a far horseshoe?" I'm not familiar with the term.
