Wouldn't it be a de-lamination?

Not my area of knowledge so a could be wrong.

Error-Ref.com has it as Lamination. It seems like it should be de-lamination because it has fallen off, but I guess not. http://www.error-ref.com/?s=lamination

I'm with CF. Excellent saved/recovered lamination. You can even see the foreign matter (grease/oil?) on the whole that kept the two metals from bonding together.
Both are from the same coin. The "piece" tucked up under the edge that is still on the whole coin.
We hardly ever get to see these saved laminations.

Any chance you can post an image of the back of the piece that came off?
Don't think I've ever seen the backside of one before. I know it will be a mirror image, but it would still be interesting.

EDIT: Being from 1946 it might be a great example of shell casings left over from WWII being repurposed into Lincoln cents.

I'm with Cats on the double dates. I would like to see a photo of the piece with it placed back on the coin.
By the way, nice one.

That's very cool! Like stated it's very rare that we get to see the piece that came off the coin, but it also looks like those two both have dates which doesn't seem correct. A photo of the piece carefully placed on the coin would be great.

There is a debris line running a across the piece . If you line it up with theedge of the "void" you will see that it completes the date correctly.

Follow the "corrosion" green line on the delam piece, it lines up with the "complete" cent...the two pieces belong together...the back of the delam would show the date impressed into it....great coin
