I was talking to a friend about my ever-increasing interest in coins and he happened to mention he had a jar of one and Two Cent Australian coins.
He was happy enough for me to have a look through them and pick out what I liked. Normally I only get to sort through coins in circulation, so this was quite a treat. As it happens there was a 1968 one cent piece among them. I had a look online and one site said there was none made for circulation, but then saw that on ebay they were indeed available albeit in fairly poor condition.
I'm keeping this one to complete a full circulated collection, but I have two questions; -Are they sought after/rare?
-Are 1986 one cents around these days?(last one to complete the set)

Well, there were 19.9 million of them minted, but that's considered to be a low mintage. CV in Unc is $28.00.

Only produced in Mint Sets.

Also, pick ou the 1966, 1968 and 1981 2c coins and look for the "SD" designer's intials at the base of the lizard's feet. There were a number minted WITHOUT the "SD" initials and are considered collectable. The 1968 2c is particulaly hard to come by.
