i just brought a new house and was cleaning the backyard over the weekend when I saw something in the dirt I found some old 50 cent pieces and things then I saw a little blue piece of plastic with royal Australian mint written on it in it is a 2 hundred dollar coin.

it says:
Legal tender $200
22 carat (.916) Gold
Weight - 10 Grams
Diameter 24mm

then on the other side it says

Reverse Coin Design

then goes on about a koala bear I'm guessing because thats what the coin has on it

Designer
Obverse
Mr. Arnold Machin, O.B.E., R.A

Reverse
Mr. Stuart Devlin, C.M.G.

Does anyone know anything about this coin I cant find anything about it on the internet

:) thanks

Wow! You lucky duck! It sounds to me like you've found a $200 Gold Coin. Whatever you do, don't take it to the Bank, as all you'll get there is $200. Is there a year on it?

Some Aussies who are into these will probably be able to give you an estimate of current value & knowing the year will help. Here's a few places to check out:

Hi thesoul2008, welcome to the forum. Don't sell it for $200. At the current gold value as of this morning, the melt value of this coin is around $400.

Wow nice find!! This is a $200 Koala, which contains well more than $200 in gold. A quick search on ebay shows that these are going for AU$400.

Some of the links don't bring up pictures, just google, but the ones that did work show coins that appear to be Unc or aUnc and are worth more than face value.

I'm no expert on grading, but all coins would be slotted very reverently into my collection.

A very good find. You should get a metal detector & check the rest of the yard, could be heaps of stuff there. Good luck!
