At first I thought the edge was grinded but as I was inspecting I noticed this L on the rim. So I really don't know what I'm looking at now. Hoping someone knows.

I believe that happens when the die is worn down more. It's very common in LWCs.

In other words, die wear.

Looks like someone was messing around with the coin. It took several tries to create a copy of the 'L' on that area. PSD.

I agree that this backwards L on the rim is most likely a vise job.

Oh...I thought you meant the actual L in Liberty. I see, the one actually all the way on the rim.

Yep I agree, PMD.

I'm a bit confused as to orientation of the L shape. Is that the Liberty L or, a second hit ?

Considering all the other damage done to the coin I would most likely attribute the "L" to damage as well.
