Hello,
I am writing an article about acceptance of Euro in Slovakia and I would like to ask somebody from county in EURO ZONE if the acceptance of euro currnecy significantly influenced prices of previous memorial coins in old currency.

Thank you very much for help

Hi,
I'm not understanding a lot what question, anyway I'll try to answer w/ what happened in Italy when Euro arrived, last year before 1st january 2002 coin collectors were crazy to get old currency coins, in 2002 as soon euro appeared, everybody were crazy to get euro and old currency prices fall down.

Thank you very much. I have a few more questions. Is it possible to see any graph with progress of price after the Euro arrived ? How many percents did the prices fall ? Did the same thing happen in Germay ?

Finding such precise information - percentages or graphs - will be difficult, I think. Here in Germany the pre-euro (DM, Pf) coins became less popular when the euro cash became legal tender. Partly because some DM collector now focused on € pieces, partly because the new cash "created" new collectors. Of course that novelty effect is gone ...

One thing to keep in mind when talking about coins from the Federal Republic of Germany is that only the first few commems (until 1965) are actually worth something. With few exceptions (e.g. proof issues) most coins issued in later years were and are, due to the high mintages, basically worth their face value.

Hei bestbuy,
I think you are trying to get some work done from somebody else, anyway if you want to create these graphics w/ data and percentage, you can get coins auctions results (country by country) before and after 2002, often available on-line and you got it ...

Don't know of any. However, collecting coins is a hobby for me, not an investment. So I (usually ) check prices when buying coins but do not really need charts.

There is a website in German that provides some price info about euro coins/sets (not about pre-euro coins) from selected countries. http://www.silvas.de/Preise.htm Prices are based on ebay auction results ...
