Is this a mint error, or some kind of melting post-mint, that caused the flat edge and squished lettering? Very new at this!

Happened post mint, though I'd lead toward pressure rather than heat.

To be much more positive about my opinion I would need to closely examine this coin in hand, but
from what I see in the pictures,
I agree with the opinion that it has been heated to within an inch of it's life, and cleaned up a bit later on.
