Just found my 4th 1972DDO,() the other three are all 1972 DDO-003's

Not sure about this one.

It seems to match either the 003 or 008 from Chuck's site (Coppercoins) regarding the doubling, but I can't find a match for any of the die markers for 3 or 8

Here are the pics.

Maybe someone can see something that I missed?

I lean toward 8....Although some of what I look for on the date is a little banged up. Looks more like 8 than 3.

Thanks,
Bill

Congrats on the DDO!
As to the die, I think it looks closest to #8, but a few things perplex me--such as the N in "IN" and the R in "TRUST". Ah, I see Bill responded while I was checking Coppercoins.

I agree about the N, something doesn't seem right, does it appear like there are 3 perpendicular lines on the right side of the N?

The normal last line of the N, then the doubled line next to it , and then another line a little over from the doubled line?

I can't tell with the images provided. This is an attribution better made with coin in hand.

It looks like 003 from an overlay with images of the 003 & 008.

Very slight difference in spread only see by side by side images.

Coop,

No it doesn't, in fact your pictures prove it to be number 8. His coin has a ding on the upper part of the one and some damage on the 9 but look at the shape of the left side of the 9, his coin matches #8.

Also, look at the notch that cuts through the tail bar of the 7...

On #3, the groove runs below the halfway line, so to speak.

On #8, the groove is much above the halfway line of the tail of the 2.

On #3, the doubling at the left of the W is slightly angled

On #8, the doubling to the left of the first bar of the W is parralel to the primary letter.

His coin is definitely #8 and it's the fine details as seen in your picture that proves it.

Thanks,
Bill
