This post will include a few pictures of world coins, but if the mods agree I think this belongs here.

There are a lot of posts about sharing our hobby with friends and families. How'd you get started, trying to get your kids to collect, and safety, robbery concerns from telling friends you collect are all talked about a lot. But it's a great topic and something just happened to me that made me want to bring it up again.

My grandmother introduced me to coin collecting over thirty years ago. But other than that I don't have any family that collect. But I definitely share my interest in coins during conversation. And I am quick to extrapolate it out to discussions about history and culture and the economy, etc to make it inclusive and hopefully more interesting.

I have a few older sisters. One of them recently got the opportunity to go on her dream vacation to Italy. Before her trip we were talking about her itinerary and she said she would be visiting the Vatican. So I asked her to check the gift shop for coins. She brought me back some nice Euros, incorporated into Vatican souvenirs which I love being both a coin collector and Catholic.

Anyway, the point is that our hobby is great, and so is family. Cherish them both.

Any comments welcome!

Nice addition to your collection.
You'll have to post these to Around the World with Coins, a Geography Game when they get to Italy again.
Rest in Peace

If I remember right, doesn't the Vatican produce their own currency? That could be an interesting set to put together.

Very nice!

My collecting started when my dad gave me two Ikes. It continued as my mother and grandfather fueled my interest.

Yes. They used to issue the Lira, but eventually switched over to the Euro. Very cool set! I like how one of the stamps has a coin incorporated into the design
