Can experts here suggest the best coin storage brands and supplies. I collected coins years ago so have various types of plastic binder sheets, roll tubes, 2 by 2s and flips but concerned those older products I used years ago may have PVC or other chemical issues. I do not see any visible damage on stored coins. Can you suggest the best brands and suppliers of 2 by 2 flips, the cheaper staple flips and BU roll holders etc? should I remove all the coins currently in older holders and put in new holders? last question is putting the collection in those plastic bins a bad idea or a cardboard box a better idea? thanks
Rest in Peace

If your worried about your old holders try these guys out . I believe they don't handle any supplies containing PVC . The most important thing about coin storage is to keep them away from Humidity and moisture . Best is cool dry environment all year long . Wizard coin supply I believe will answer any storage question you may have .

If you've got a local dealer who sells supplies they should have 2x2s etc that do not contain PVC or other harmful chemicals.

To the best of my knowledge, 2x2s have never had PVC in them. I have plenty of coins in 20 to 45 year old 2x2s. I think the windows have always been Mylar (polyester) or a similar polymer.

I am unaware that PVC binder sheets pose any problem for holding coins that are in 2x2s (the plasticizer should not be able to migrate through the polyester windows), but curious to hear if there are other experiences out here. Again, I have 45 year old binder sheets that I have been replacing because many of them have cracked, but none have had adverse effects on coins stored in 2x2s.

The issues arise when you have coins directly in contact with PVC (i.e., flexible flips made from PVC).

My rule of thumb is to check on you collection once or twice a year at a minimum and see what's going on. If anything looks like it wearing out replace it. Rusty staples, brittle flops or pages, extra soft flips or pages. Discoloration of the plastic.

Usually the problem's occur and get bad when people put it up for years and don't check what's going on. And they come back to a surprise.
Collecting supplies get expensive. I don't really suggest spending money on it unless you need to. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

If you do storage bins, buy food safe ones. Just on the off chance pvc or other chemicals are used when they made them. Some storage bins have this weird (cooking oil?) Smell to them. I don't think something like that is a good idea.

As was said moisture is the real enemy. Hard temp changes that cause condensation or humidity has a great affect on how fast everything deteriorates but dry rot can also be an issue which is why I recommend checking your collection regularly, at least annually, for any new problems with storage that need to be corrected or replaced. It all should look as it did when you last looked at it. If it doesn't it's deteriorating. If it looks the same nothing needs to be done.

very good advice and much appreciated. Decided to keep my slabbed coins in a 3 inch binder with zipper closure all around to prevent any lost slabs! bought the plastic sleeve pages that hold the 9 slabs per page. I find it an excellent way to easily store and see them. thanks all for the advice.
