Nice score! For $20 that's a steal. Was it listed as an RPM?

Congratulations, tropicalbats. You got an awesome coin.

Please tell me that I am not seeing S/S/S. I looked at Wexler's and your coin which is better looking than the specimen coin looks like WRPM-008... but then the split serif I am seeing in your coin is not the one pointed out as the other RPM in WRPM-008 (your coin still has the other RPM pointed at Wexler's site though). Kindly see if there are split serifs at both ends of the S. Thanks.

I am just trying to learn. Just a matter of RPM discussion.

Again, congratulations on your new purchase...

Thanks for the great comments! No it was not listed as an RPM, but you didn't have to look at the photo of the coin very hard to see this one. Some cherrypicks are made with a hope and a guess based on bad photos or just hard to see varieties. This one could not be missed either the quality of the coin or the RPM.

As for an S/S/S, yes, probably. The S mint marks from the 1940's are just full of minor split serifs and extra mint marks. This one seems to have a bit of a split upper serif and an extra lower curve line suggesting maybe a north as well. But it's so minor that likely even if an attributor saw it they would ignore it. Also, note that the coin has some mild Machine Doubling to the north as well so careful which what you are seeing there as the line that looks like a lower curve on a third mint mark could just be the edge of the slide doubling. Either way, I wouldn't push it for an S/S/S listing.

It just takes time. But walking you through each discussion will help add information on each thread. Have you tried this yet?
Try this. Look at the original post only. See the coin. Think what your think it is. Write it down or just remember what you think it is. Then read the other posts on the thread. That way it is like you found the coin and what do you see on it? That is the way you learn. One coin at a time.

Start your own educational image files. Copy information on a word page or take screen shots of information you want to remember. The more the study, the more you learn.
