I was just curious if anyone knew if this would be a sign for other things I could be missing, apparently die scratches and doubled dies go hand in hand but I don't really see any doubling anywhere, as you can see there is a big amount of die scratches covering Lincolns eye, ear, hair and in front of his face and top of his head.

It is all over the obverse and reverse in some of the columns as well, I've never see this many die scratches before so I thought I would show you guys and see what you's may think.

It may have been from the polishing of the die to remove a die clash.

I agree that those are due to die polishing. I am not aware of a direct connection between DDs and die scratches, though.

I could totally be mistaken regarding the die scratches and doubling having any sort of a connection, I have just noticed a lot of coins that have doubling usually have die scratches as well being used as markers of some sorts so thats why I had said that. But I will post pics of the full obverse and reverse here shortly

I think the idea comes from the way varieties are often confirmed by looking for "indicators" such as die scratches.

With them being in the center of the coin, the metal flow would follow these enhancing them even more and showing up as die flow. (Pattern of least resistance) Enlarging them as they continue to strike more coins.
