I am not really certain of the date of this coin other than what appears to be the characters for "year 2" on the obverse. Any info about this coin would be greatly appreciated!

Whoa, that's not Chinese but it's a Korean 1/4 yang coin, dated 1898.

gxseries- ah, thank you very much for the help! heh, it is kind of funny how this date is common, but every other of this KM is in the $300 dollar range for this grade. It is also interesting how this coin has so many die breaks and planchet flaws.

Archraz, the others of this type are just mad scarce. I got a list of Korean coins that I'm looking for from this era:

Interesting. Is there very much demand for this type of Korean coin? I must admit that I found this coin in a dealer's 25 cent junk box.

25 cents?!?!?! I would have bought any Korean coins from that era without hesitation.

Good job!

Even in that condition, I reckon it would sell for at least 5-10 dollars. Don't take Krause's pricing for granted. They are out of whack these days.

There is a strong demand even for a badly mutilated 1 fun coin which I think I paid almost 10 dollars for it. Shows how strong the demand is

gxseries- thanks! I must admit that I have gotten quit a few good deals on Asian coins from this dealer since he just throws all Asian coins that are not silver or gold into the 25 cent box (There really is almost zero demand for Asian coins around these parts). Thanks for all the info and help!
