watching this one at auction right now posting it for opinions because I want it in my collection bad even without the date. Does it look legitimate. Is it struck off center with clipping or off center on the clipping or what exactly besides it's a train wreck.

I'm far from an expert, but I wouldn't buy this. It looks too good to be true in my opinion. I've never seen a clip that huge, and it's weirdly shaped to me.

While I felt the same way as quarterhoarder about this one in that it appears larger than a cent. I in the same way trust grapecollects opinions along with a few others on here who have proven their skills exceptional. I am also no expert and didn't even realise ragged clips were possible.

hello muddyknuckles,
can we get a picture of this and a normal cent?
Also, a picture of the edges?
Thanks
EDIT: Also, a picture of the area above UNITED. Looks like something on that side.

The strike can make the curved clips irregular. Anyone notice that this is a blank and not a planchet. It would fit in the setup process. Probably got kicked through. Looks like this one started the setup, but probably got kicked through the setup machine.

@mk, if this is your thing (and based on your posts, it seems like it is), then I might take a flier on this and bid.

I don't see any reason to think this is a fake, but use due caution. It seems that clipped planchets can cause off-center errors because they interfere with the feeder fingers. The odd shape of the large clip isn't a perfect curve, but that's true of a lot of large clips. The shape of this coin looks like it's a triple clip, just short of being a bow tie strike.

I see no reason to question the authenticity of this off-center strike on a double-clipped planchet.

Thank you everyone who has weighted in special thanks to spence and coop. Yes I love me some errors especially if the price is right I did notice that it didn't seem to have any raised edges. Here for the knowledge as are most people again had no idea ragged clips were even possible. hopeful it doesn't go too high very grateful for the coin family on this site. Amazing even Mr. Diamond has weighed in on this cent.
