Good morning. Here's another LMC that was mixed in with other coins my Grandfather gave me years ago. I have a few of the "Chemistry" coins that were plated as experiments, and this more than likely is one. But it has raised lettering, logos other than of the cent itself. More so from Lincoln's ear running SW towards the coins initials. Even seems to go beyond the rim. Just an ordinary coin?

@skippy, please post the weight as that should help us to figure out what you have there. Also, please check to see if this coin is weakly attracted to a magnet. Thx!

I apologize Spence....I must have read your mind because I came back to edit that info in and saw your response. It weighs 3.08 grams and when checked for any attraction to a magnet there seemed to be none at all.

@skippy no problem at all. Thanks for adding this extra information.

Since the weight is normal, this shouldn't be any sort of off-metal or wrong planchet strike. Rather someone has plated this (although likely not with nickel)--perhaps zinc? Alternatively, it might have been coated with Mercury as that was a thing to do at one time.

my first thought was mercury exposure or contamination as well, but it's hard to know for sure. The silver/gray color looks thin and uneven in the photos. While I'm not sure of the health concerns, you may want to drop it in a 2x2 just to limit contact with your skin.

I found an old discussion of the possible health risk here http://goccf.com/t/96160 and you may want to do some followup research.

Surely a thin plating of some kind.
