I have this 1977 d penny that caught my eye because of the mint mark. Is it common to see the mint mark tilted so badly?

Well they are hand applied to the die by hand until 1990. So they can be angled a bit:

If it were BU, I'd save it for educational purposes to show to new collectors. But the die made a full run, so there are lots of them out there. (up to one million from this die alone)
