doesn't appear to be PMD, but never ran into anything like it, coin weight is 2.9g, none of the distortion goes beyond the level of the coin other than the large " Cud" west of Lincolns head. New one on me...like I said, huh?

It definitely looks like PMD. Covered in solder? Melted? I don't know, but this did not happen at the Mint.

if it got hot enough to melt, wouldnt it distort the wheat lines first? I guess I could always take a soldering iron to it and see if it melts off...i just figured solder would end up higher than the rims...not to mention it weights 2.9g which I would assume is within tolerance...and looks to be far more metal than 0.1g there if it is solder ...dunno...just an oddity.

43 steel cent should weigh 2.7gs....right?
Looks like solder splatter to me, then worn down from still being used/accepted as legal tender

Heat could have very well been applied to it. Most of the the time though if a piece of steel gets hot enough to start melting it should have distorted the reverses of the cent
Are there lines or groves in the distorted steel? Could have slid on a rough rocky surface I've seen coin that are sliders that resemble this damage hope it helps and just my 2cents.
