Hello Everyone!

This is my first time writing on this website, and my first month into collecting coins. I recently picked up an NGC-certified coin, a Widow's Mite, on ebay. It was sold for what I assume to be a reasonable price of $70, given its age and historical value. From what I briefly gathered about NGC is that sometimes authenticity it not necessarily guaranteed. The reason I bring this up is that I doubt my coin's authenticity, despite NGC seeming like a trustworthy website. Either side of the coin seems to have different quality/grade; the side with the anchor having significant deterioration and the side with the star/rays being somewhat smooth. I am new to this field of collecting ancient coins/coins in general, so I am not familiar with exact grading nor ways of authenticating such coins. Is there anyone who could help me with determining the authenticity of the coin? If not, maybe I service I can contact? Thank you,

Matt

Here is a photo of the slab.

Due to the limit on file size, I could only take a picture of the coin and most of the NGC labeled slab.

NGC does not certify ancient coins, they just assign a grade. IMO it's a waste of money having a coin in this condition graded. These are inexpensive common coins in this grade and should not be graded IMO. Your coin is genuine and typical for the type.

Those of us that collect ancient coins believe that they should not be slabbed and when we do come across one that is we usually free it from it's tomb.
