Just wondering what you guys think this might be, it kind of looks like a die chip but it contours to the inside of his ear fairly well making it look doubled, the area is raised off of the coin.

I looked online at other 1938 nickels and they didn't have this.

"hearing aid" die clash.
Often found in conjunction with die clash as shown on your 1950 nickel.
Can be found in most years of GeoVI nickels.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
