Was hoping someone could provide some insight on early 1900's nickels. Particularly to key dates, mint marks, rarities, etc. After discussing, with a coworker, the hype of the 2019 S ERP ASE he mentioned inheriting a vintage nickel slot machine and wondering if it might contain any valuable nickels.
Rest in Peace

@wyzeguy - Most anything's possible, but finding rare nickels in an old slot machine would be long odds, methinks. Rather than speculate, I suggest you have your friend post pics of the Buffalo and Liberty Head nickels he finds. Pics generate interest ....

Look for any 1913 Liberty Head Nickels. Try to make an entire roll of them.

So is 1913 the key date? All mint marks or just certain ones?

There are only 5 known 1913 nickels. Get yourself a Red Book -- that would be a start for learning what the key dates/mint marks are.
Rest in Peace

No , I believe the coin ''just carl'' is talking about is the 1913-W mint mark struct at the west point Mint . The 1913's without mint marks are spenders . Sorry just pulling your leg .
