VAM Help Needed - 1879-S Doubled Date And S/S

Tanman2001 Pillar of the Community United States 4399 Posts	Posted 12/22/2019 2:00 pm Recently picked this one up at a LCS along with a few other Morgans. This is the only one I haven't been able to attribute a VAM to. It has a RPD extremely similar to Obverse III2 11 (VAM-22 and VAM-49) however the reverse matches neither of those. My coin has a S/S RPM with an extra curve in the upper loop. VAM-22 does not have a S/S RPM, so no match. VAM-49 has a S/S RPM, but it shows to the "right of lower loop", not in the upper loop, so no match. Any help with this one? Did I miss something? I'll also include some images of polishing lines I see on this coin, if that helps. Report this Post to the Staff

AU90o Valued Member United States 199 Posts	Posted 12/24/2019 4:45 pm Unfortunately I think some photos shown for VAM-11 and VAM-12 are incorrect. I don't have VAM-11, but I will check my VAM-12A to see if mm and date matches yours or not. Report this Post to the Staff

Tanman2001 Pillar of the Community United States 4399 Posts	Posted 12/29/2019 5:14 pm Just looked a bit further. My coin's doubled date and polishing lines are a match to VAM-18a. However, VAM-18 makes no mention of the S/S. Either it's not visible in other die states or it was overlooked. Report this Post to the Staff
