@so, first welcome to CCF. Second, are you perhaps talking about the close proximity of the L in LIBERTY to the rim? If so, this is normal with a coin showing heavy circulation wear.

Looks like the rims are not free from contact that moved them inwards irregularly. The rims should be round:
