I try to do my best at not spening all of my money at work. It's tough when you're in a coin shop.

So today a guy walks in with some REAL nice type coins for sale. Boss bought them and I just LOVED this large cent!

What the heck, I figure he might let me put it on layaway so I inquire about it. HE GIVES IT TO ME FOR NOTHING!!.

I don't just sell coins for him after all. I"ve patched the roof, done some painting at his house - whatever it takes to keep getting a paycheck. Seems he really DOES appreciate it.

I'm serious about this one folks. I figure it could go an EASY MS64 RED!.180 degree die rotation as well. Man am I pumped!

Have a look! I OWN this baby!

Oh yeah?! Well I have a 1909-S VDB Large Cent!

PS: The real cent 'orbiting' the giant S-VDB is a 1968-S Proof cent that I received in my change yesterday! (the surface is much shinier than it looks in the scan!)

I said its a 65 because its a 1965

DNA, are you sure the 1968-S is a proof coin? San Francisco minted cents for circulation that year.

It does look like a regular 1968-S cent in the scan (scans don't show luster), and it has without a doubt seen a bit of circulation. It looks much better in person, and it sure doesn't look like any of the business-strike late 60's "S" cents that I've found (and a couple of those even have some mint red!). It looks almost exactly like my Special Mint Set 1965-67 cents, but with a bit of wear.

I almost suspected something was amiss since he had "AWESOME" in all-caps, but he still got me!

I have read that the strike of a proof coin is still distinguishable even if the luster is worn away. A bigger picture (or good closeup) might help someone (that knows this better than myself) to make that determination.

I put my 1968-S cent next to a typical circulated 1969-S cent. With the camera flash off, you can see some of the difference (but not as clearly as in person).
