At the beginning of the year or later? Wondering if I should expect the possibly of seeing them at the bank anytime soon.

The new coins are sent in balistic bags from the mint to the contracted coin terminals (agents of the Federal Reserve Banks) for distribution. When they go out depends on how many older coins are flowing into the terminal for counting, wrapping, and distribution back out.

A generic answer to this question:
'When the issue banks need them to meet customer demand'

Mints quite often have more than a years' production in storage, because the demand from issue banks has slacked off.
Also the Mint has to keep a stock ready for issue, so the demand for coins can be met at any time.

That is why coins minted in a particular year, may take more than a year, before they are seen in circulation, and sometimes they are seen in circulation not long after the start of the current year for the date that is on the coin.

In the UK it's unusual to see coins with a new year's date in change before April of that year. An obvious exception was in 1971 when the new half, one and two pence coins were released on February 15 to coincide with the launch of the decimal currency system. The only other time I can remember getting new UK coins so early was in 2004 when 2p pieces were released in early February.

I have yet to find a 2016 Shakespeare Comedy £2 or a 2017 2p coin in circulation, although both have been issued.

When are the new coins released? Jan 2. When they will show up at your local bank is a whole different matter. It al depends on the local coin demands in the area where you live and whether you live in a coin "source" or a coin "sink" or something in between. Some cities are sinks, they can't seem to get enough coins. The banks are constantly ordering coins from the Fed and never sending any back. Sinks are much more likely to get new coins early. Other cities are coin sources, coins seem to be constantly flowing into the city from other areas and the banks are overburdened with coins. In those areas the banks are constantly sending coins back to the Fed and never ordering any. Those areas won't get new coins until later when they finally flow in for outside the area. Then there are the areas like where I live which are neither a sink or a source. The amount of coins in circulation is pretty much perfectly balanced. The banks never have to order coins, nor do they have excess they need to send back. The same coins just keep circulating in the same area with new material slowly trickling in from people passing through getting something to eat, buying gas etc. Here you never see a roll of new coins and seldom more than two or three at a time when they do appear. New coins may not show up here for a year or longer. I have seen less than a dozen 2018 or 2019 cents combined so far, I have only seen one 2017 P cent. At least half of the quarter in circulation here are still the eagle reverse and I haven't seen any of the 2017, 18, or 19 quarters in circulation here yet.
